12-19-11 - "Top Bunk" ~ Gauntlet Hair

I'm going to be honest: I'm not precisely sure what's going on here.  But I like it.

Gauntlet Hair is a noise pop duo from Chicago by way of Denver.  This track has looping guitar riffs and somewhat dissonant interludes, along with nigh-unintelligible lyrics.  (It's my custom to pilfer a line or two and include at the bottom of the post, but in this case, I can't make out enough of a phrase to put anything remotely meaningful.... so... yeah.)

It might not be your cup of tea, but then again you may find yourself drawn to it as I was.  Give it a click, and if it's not for you, just browse to another post, like maybe some Sufjan Stevens if you're a hipster, Arcade Fire if you only liked Sufjan before he went mainstream, Said The Whale if you only liked Arcade Fire before they went mainstream, William Fitzsimmons if you just went through a divorce or nasty breakup, Bob Marley if you're Rastafarian or just like weed, or.... you know what, just browse around!

5-16-11 - "1979" ~ Smashing Pumpkins

This one was on the radio today; brings back memories.  Probably one of the first songs I really liked when I first started listening to the radio back in the day... just a good cruising song, lyrics a bit vague but some meaning to be derived, methinks.

"And we don't know
just where our bones will

rest; to dust,
I guess, forgotten and absorbed
into the earth below..."

5-4-11 - "Hands Open" ~ Snow Patrol

I'm nothing if not predictable.  Wait, did I use that line to open yesterday's post?  Yes, yes I did.  Sorry.  Funny story though, tonight's song gives a nod to last night's, and I'm still in Chicago, so there you go.  Snow Patrol is pretty great, and this one's a rocker.  It probably has something to do with a relationship that hasn't really started yet, but the singer sure hopes it does...

"Put Sufjan Stevens on
and we'll play your favorite song,
Chicago bursts to life

and your sweet smile remembers you;
My hands open and my eyes open,

I just keep hoping that your heart opens..."

1-19-11 - "This Too Shall Pass" ~ OK Go

OK Go are possibly more famous for their music videos than for the songs themselves, but they have some pretty good stuff musically too.  This one's tons of fun.  (oh btw, it just occurred to me tonight that I can slap YouTube videos right into posts, rather than linking.  how about that.  booyah.)

"You can't stop these kids from dancing, and why would you want to,
especially when when you are already getting yours?
'Cause if your mind don't move, and your knees don't bend,
well don't start blaming the kids again..."

What fun. (these versions have their own audio which is different from the studio cut.  each is spiffy in its own right.)
