7-14-11 - "Dancing Machine" ~ The Jackson 5

Quickie tonight, because I'm on the road for work and have to get up super early.  This is a pretty obscure band, you've probably never heard of them.  But they rocked back in the day; just watch the moves and listen to the harmonies and enjoy the supafly coordinated outfits.

full of color self contained
tuned and gentle to your vibes..."

6-10-11 - "Cecilia" ~ Simon & Garfunkel

As promised, here's a song with a lot lighter of a mood than yesterday's.  This one's either about a relationship on the rocks or the trials and tribulations of a songwriter... or both, perchance?  St. Cecilia is the patron saint of music in the Catholic faith; Paul Simon supposedly was trying to express the fleeting nature of artistic inspiration.

Either way, it's just a fun song with unusual percussion and cool harmonies:

"Jubilation,
she loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I'm laughing..."

5-5-11 - "Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard" ~ Paul Simon

Surely this song isn't about DRUGS, is it?  I mean, come on, some people think EVERY song is about drugs... they're loony.  This song's just about having a friend of Hispanic descent with whom one enjoys a rousing game of hopscotch.  Or perhaps H-O-R-S-E.  Or perhaps they're enjoying 4/20....

It's just a freakin' catchy song.  Maybe it's about weed (that's what I always assumed), but Simon apparently has stated in numerous interviews that he doesn't know what "the mama saw", and it's just a fluff song.  Also, a lot of people apparently think it's about homosexuality, at least according to Songmeanings.net... at any rate, I love the song, and who cares what it's about?

I don't know where I'm going
I'm on my way I'm taking my time
but I done know where..."

4-17-11 - "The Heathen" ~ Bob Marley & The Wailers

To polish off your weekend, here's a nice little Rasta tune for you... from the "songs heard whilst driving" series... I'm not entirely sure of the meaning behind this one, as the chorus and verses don't seem to jive, but it's a good song.

"As a man sow, shall he reap,
and I know that talk is cheap,
but the hotter the battle
is the sweeter the victory..."

BONUS FUN FACT: Did you know that Marley's last concert before his untimely death of cancer was in the Stanley Theater (now known as the Benedum Center) in Pittsburgh, PA on September 23, 1980?
