"All Sense Of Time" ~ David Wax Museum

David Wax Museum are coming back to Pittsburgh to play Club Cafe on Feb 2., a show for which I'm pretty excited.  This might be my favorite track from last year's release, "Knock Knock Get Up"... but it's a fantastic album, so that's a tough call.

I love that David sings most of the song in the low end of his register.  It's a dynamic you don't hear often, and it sets the track apart while drawing focus to the lyrics.

I find the lyrics to be quite powerful, so here they are in their entirety, taken straight from the band's website:

8-26-11 - "Green Light" ~ Leisure

Found this one thanks to the good people at Tympanogram.  The ethereal feel of the song is crafted from a dirty little piano hook slathered over a sparse drum loop, and the mournful vocals float above like the morning fog over the Allegheny River... or perhaps I should say the Charles, seeing as Leisure hail from Boston.  


The lyrics paint a picture of entropic developments, perhaps the waning of a fiery relationship.

6-5-11 - "Born With A Broken Heart" ~ The David Wax Museum

If my last name was Wax, my band name would probably be this.  These guys (& gal) opened for Josh Ritter tonight at Hartwood Acres, and believe you me, it was worth every penny.  Ok, so it was free, but still, I'm quite glad to have been there.  David Wax Museum brings a fusion of Mexican folk stylings and Americana that's pretty entertaining.  This particular one isn't so much Mexican as just plain fun, but if you listen to a few others you'll catch that feel.  They even feature the quijada (donkey's jawbone) on several songs:
