1-7-12 - "Live Forever" ~ Drew Holcomb & The Neighbors

Sometimes a song just strikes you as genuine and sincere.  There's nothing particularly amazing about this song musically, but I'm drawn to it nonetheless.  Simple chords, simple lyrics, simple and heartfelt message - it works here.  Not every song has to be groundbreaking.  And you know any artists who have toured with The Avett Brothers have some musical chops, because Seth and Scott have impeccable taste.  Anyway, check it out, I think you'll enjoy:

11-12-11 - "Sequestered In Memphis" ~ The Hold Steady

In honor of a show I didn't attend in Pittsburgh tonight, here's a track about, well, falling in with the wrong kind of girl, getting picked up by the cops for questioning, and... you'll catch on pretty quick, I'd imagine.  Some of my friends really love The Hold Steady, and I went to see them a while back last time they were in town, and they're not bad, but not my personal favorite style of music either.  Enjoyable performance, just not quite in my wheelhouse.  This one was my favorite song they performed.  Catchy rock tune with humorous lyrics and a nice background piano riff.  Check it:

3-6-11 - "City Of New Orleans" ~ The Seldom Scene

Heard this one on the radio tonight, and it's pretty sweet.  I do love a witty band name, and being a railroader of sorts myself, a railroading song can be quite special.  A little bit of lyrical depth too, if you want to listen closely.
